The City of Differdange, the only EU Mission City in Luxembourg, is a municipality of around 31,000 inhabitants in the south, undergoing rapid urban transformation through the redevelopment of former industrial brownfields into new mixed-use neighbourhoods.
The city is recognised for its proactive climate and mobility policies, including its Climate Pact engagement and pilot initiatives in shared electric mobility, cycling infrastructure, and urban greening. Differdange’s Innovation & Climate Transition Unit coordinates a growing portfolio of EU-funded projects on sustainable urban mobility, energy transition, and climate adaptation, working closely with regional partners such as the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and the University of Luxembourg..
Organisation role in the consortium
Differdange leads the local demonstrator in Luxembourg, piloting the “Heart Zones” approach to encourage active mobility around its schools and neighbourhoods. The city also contributes its experience in shared electric mobility and community engagement to support the co-design and testing of active mobility interventions across the DynamiCity consortium.
