Cluj Metropolitan Area

CMA is located in north-western Romania, brings together over 425,000 inhabitants across 20 municipalities and is one of Romania’s leading metropolitan regions in sustainable urban development. i

Together with Cluj-Napoca — one of the EU Mission Cities aiming for climate neutrality by 2030 — CMA promotes sustainable mobility, climate neutrality and healthier urban environments at metropolitan scale. Despite progress in sustainable mobility, metropolitan mobility remains strongly car-dependent and cycling infrastructure fragmented.

CMA acts as a Follower City Demonstrator within DynamiCity, testing and validating active mobility and tactical urbanism measures aimed at encouraging walking, cycling, and micro-mobility. Through the project, CMA seeks to promote healthier and more sustainable mobility behaviours by developing nature-oriented routes, implementing tactical urbanism and green infrastructure interventions, and integrating environmental and mobility data into innovative digital mobility solutions.
