Helmond is a medium-sized city in the Netherlands with around 97,000 inhabitants, located in the Brainport Eindhoven region. The city is expected to grow rapidly, with a 25% increase in the number of homes by 2040. This growth will create challenges for accessibility, liveability and mobility, making it increasingly important to encourage more people to choose active mobility. Helmond has long-standing experience as a living lab for smart and sustainable mobility, notably on on Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) and smart traffic lights.

Helmond is one of the lead cities in the Dynamicity project. In DynamiCity, Helmond will extend its C-ITS infrastructure beyond motorised traffic to support cyclists and pedestrians, providing information and greater comfort for active mobility users. The city will work closely with cancer survivors to make sure that they can use comfortable and accessible cycling route, making active mobility a more inclusive option..
