Istanbul

Rapid urban growth, steep terrain and chronic congestion have made cycling and micro-mobility difficult in Istanbul, despite strong latent interest. The city’s large population (approximately 16 million) and high rate of private vehicle use contribute to the significant share of transportation in the city’s greenhouse gas emissions inventory.

Istanbul will pilot a rewards scheme paying residents in one inland district for cycling and micro-mobility trips, generating new data on what would shift people away from cars.
